It is important to understand there are several ways a contractor can cut corners that most people would never notice. The corners cut behind the scenes provide an opportunity for a builder to put lipstick so to speak on the exterior of the home making the home look beautiful. In new home construction, it is the little things you don’t notice or can’t appreciate until damage has already occurred.
For example, the stone installation on this house will cover up issues from poor construction. The pictures show a stone product commonly used in construction. Notice the 1-inch gap behind the wall and then the wood wall. To the average consumer no big deal. However, there is a big issue here! Stone and mortar is porous allowing water through and into the wall cavity. While stone will dry fast from the heat of the sun, the wood wall trapped behind the stone wall will not dry. Leaving a vapor issue inside the wall cavity. The wood will break down faster or mold could develop. Installing a vapor barrio avoids this issue.
